Interview with a Bowl of Oatmeal

Sandusky, Ohio, May 7, 2009

Hello Man: Hello Man!
Oatmeal: Hi man.
HM: How have you been since last time we spoke?
OM: (gurgle)
HM: I see. What is your favorite TV station?
OM: I'm partial to NBC, they have great programming. I've been really into Chuck lately, and I think Parks and Recreation definitely has promise. They just need to hang in there.
HM: I understand you've been very vocal about your pro-choice stance over the years. Do you think an Obama administration ensures that Roe v. Wade won't be overturned?
OM: I believe so, I'm not too concerned about social issues with Obama in the White House. Of course, there are still economic issues that affect most of us all the way down the line. I'm not holding my breath for a swift economic recovery.
HM: How do you feel about Arlen Spector switching over to the Democratic party?
OM: (slosh)
HM: Obviously. We were all taken by surprise by that move.
OM: (laughing) Yeah, I never thought I'd see the day.
HM: Is today your birthday?
OM: Yes.
HM: What do you hope to accomplish in the next few years?
OM: I hope to see a better tomorrow, if we're being honest. I would like to see all my efforts to better the world pay off in some manner. Of course, I'm a realist. Real change doesn't happen overnight, it's a long arduous process.
HM: Is there any words of assurance you can offer to those of us who remain cynical?
OM: People change. If you fall down, get back up. I believe that the dragons are in my houseboat.
HM: Why bother?
OM: If not me, who will? Somebody has to. Those of us who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
HM: I love you baby.
OM: That pretty much sums up my stance. Whatever you do, don't believe the hype.
HM: Anything else?
OM: Bye for now!
